Weekly Runs

Dear Track Club Members and Friends,

Owing to the Covid-19 outbreak and requests by government agencies to limit group activities, the Salt Lake City Track Club is suspending all hosted run activities until further notice.  This includes the training runs this Saturday for the SLC Marathon, and we have decided it would be unsafe to set out water stops in the event one of us might be ill.

All runs are cancelled.  Route maps will remain on our website, but no organized runs will be held, and the Track Club will have no involvement in or responsibility for any organized runs.

An announcement about the Winter Series Make-up Run will be sent in the next few days to participants.  We anticipate that there will be a way for runners to do something on their own to finish the series and then contact us for a medal. Stay tuned for that, if it applies to you.

We regret the need to take these steps but are hopeful that the crisis will pass before long and we can run together again.  We want to be safe, and we also want to be sure we are helping to contain the spread of the disease ourselves.

Club runs are noncompetitive and are open to members, guests, and runners of all levels of experience and ability. Nonmembers are welcome but are asked to join the club and sign a liability waiver if they participate on a regular basis. There is no fee for the runs, and no facilities are provided. Tuesday Speedwork:
September only: Start Time 6:30 AM 

October-May: Start Time 6:00 PM
June-August: Start Time 6:00 AM

Speed workouts sessions are held at the Highland High School (1700 E 2100 S) track. We meet at the Garden Center parking lot at the NE corner of Sugar House Park  at 1602 E  2100 S, just before the Highland High School fence line. 

We typically warm up with a lap around Sugar House Park and then head down to the track for the workout. In the winter the track is covered in snow and ice so the workouts are conducted in the park. We are a prompt group, so if you don’t want to miss us, please be on time. 

On occasion we break from regularity and have a workout at a different location. It is always posted on our calendar and a reminder is often posted on Facebook for the change. All are welcome and encouraged to come. The workout posted is a guideline, but it can always be adapted to meet your needs. If you are wanting to build some speed this is the run for you.

1st Wednesday Fun Run—New in 2019!

Join the SLC Track Club for a fun run on the first Wednesdays of the month. We meet at a brewery, run about six miles before hanging out at the brewery.

Join for just the run, just the beers, or (preferably 😉) both!

Thursday Morning Trail Runs

Satisfy your inner mountain goat!

This trail run will take place every Thursday morning at 6:30 am starting from various trailheads around the University/Avenues area. We are a dog-friendly group, so if Fido needs to get his miles in as well feel free to bring him along.

Keep in mind that weather impacts trail conditions and there may be mornings where we decide to run on the road. The appropriate gear can also make your sunrise trail run much more enjoyable:

  • Good pair of trail running shoes
  • Headlamp to light your path
  • Yaktrax for snowy/icy trail conditions

Saturday Fun Run

9:00 a.m. until Daylight Savings Time starts in the spring, then
8:00 a.m. until Memorial Day, then
7:00 a.m. until Labor Day, then
8:00 a.m. until Daylight Savings Time ends in the fall, then
9:00 a.m. until Daylight Savings Time starts in the spring, etc.

Start your weekend with a morning run! The core distance is usually about 6 miles; attendees often arrive early for extra mileage. Runners are invited to linger for post-run beverages, food, and socializing. For dates with a member-hosted post-run breakfast, the breakfast location will be announced at the run. (The host will provide a main dish; please bring a beverage or breakfast item to share.)  Occasionally we take a break from casual runs so runners can participate in popular races.
